The names of students eligible to participate in the commencement ceremonies are posted on the Grad Board in Student Services. In order to be on the grad list, students must meet Alberta Education graduation requirements, have paid all of their school fees, and meet the 90% attendance and late (less than 10%) requirements.
April 10 – May 19
Commencement Fee - $40
This includes rental of gown, v-stole, purchase of cap and tassel, hall rental and other costs and ticket.
Guest Ticket Cost - $5
Each graduate is guaranteed 4 guest tickets at $5 each to be paid at accounts. Seat assignments will be made by random draw and may be picked up in the textbook room from June 12 - 14.
Students who have borderline attendance where it is undetermined if they will qualify to cross the stage for commencement must pay the commencement fee and guest tickets by May 19, 2017 as gowns are ordered. Only guest tickets may be refunded if it becomes inevitable that they will not be crossing the stage.
Tickets are NOT available at the door.
Extra Guest Ticket Requests – Two extra tickets may also be purchased at this time however they are not guaranteed and are allotted after the guaranteed guest tickets have been assigned. Funds will be returned if extra tickets do not become available.
Extra Guest Ticket Forms are available in counselling and should be submitted along with the regular ticket payment (cash only). If possible, extra ticket holders will be seated with guaranteed ticket holders.
Date TBD - Compulsory Commencement Meeting - All students must attend this meeting in order to receive their cap and gown. Students are receiving their cap and gown early so they may take pictures before the commencement ceremonies as there will not be an opportunity to take any after the program. Students who do not attend this meeting will not be able to pick up their grad cap and gown until the day of Commencement.
June 15 – Commencement Ceremony - Doors open 6:00pm - Please note that all grad gowns and v-stoles must be returned immediately after the ceremony.

May 10 - May 23 - Banquet tickets will be on sale from noon on May 10, until midnight on May 23. Tickets can be purchased using this website. Payments may be made by credit or debit on-line only and may not be purchased at the school.

Photo sitting appointments can be made at the textbook room or library. Note: Only those who have paid all of their school fees will be allowed to book appointments.
February 13 - 17 Photos are taken
In order to be eligible to participate in Commencement, a Grade 12 student must:
- have 90% attendance (less than 10% unexcused absences),
NOTE: The school will only record an absence as excused if parents/guardians report the reason for the absence to the main office within one week of the absence. Medical documentation must be provided for chronic absenteeism. Parents/guardians must notify the main office within one week of the absence if they notice any discrepancies in attendance, as communicated in School Zone and the automated phone system.
- be a student in good standing by abiding by all M. E. LaZerte School rules and behavior expectations,
- be on track to complete their high school diploma by the end of June,
- have no outstanding fees or books,
- have paid grad fees.
In order to be eligible to participate in the Graduation Banquet, a Grade 12 student must:
- have no outstanding fees or books.
To earn an Alberta High School Diploma, a student must earn a minimum of 100 credits and complete and meet the standards of the follwoing courses:
- English 30-1 or 30-2,
- Social Studies 30-1 or 30-2,
- Mathematics - 10 or more credits in math (at least Math 20-1, Math 20-2, or Math 20-3),
- Science - 10 or more credits in Science 9 (at least Science 24, Science 20, Biology 20, Chemistry 20 or Physics 20),
- Physical Education 10,
- Career and Life Management (CALM) (3 credits)10 or more credits in Career and Technology Studies (CTS), Fine Arts, International Languages, or Physical Education 20/3010 or more credits in any 30 level courses in addition to English and Social Studies.
A credit represents the specific knowledge, skills and attitudes that most students can achieve with approximately 25 hours of instruction.
