M.E.LaZerte Treaty 6 Acknowledgement

The students and staff of M.E. LaZerte are honoured and grateful to be on Treaty 6 Territory. Edmonton – Amisk Waci Washahikan (Beaver Hills House) is a gathering place and traveling route for Indigenous Peoples including: Cree, Blackfoot, Nakota, Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway, Saulteaux, Inuit and homeland to the Metis Nation. The land where M.E. LaZerte is on was once an area that was full of saskatoon bushes. Nations would meet here and harvest the berries all summer. Our kinship with the land, the water and the animals provides us with the opportunity to live, work and play on this territory. Our responsibility for reconciliation is to honour this treaty for as long as the sun shines, the sweet grass grows and the river flows.

Welcome to M.E. LaZerte High School. I am privileged to get to work here and be part of such a strong community.  M.E. LaZerte is a proud community with a long history.  The history of the school has set the standards for all staff and students.  Over time, we have built success by working cooperatively with parents/guardians and the community to provide a meaningful educational experience for all students.  These relationships are the foundation to our students having all the support they need to successfully navigate high school. M.E LaZerte has one of the top high school completion rates in the city and province because of this.

M.E. LaZerte provides a safe and inclusive environment that focuses on engaged teaching and learning. Our learners are challenged to be leaders through service around their school and in the greater community.

To all community members and stakeholders, we have an open door policy at M.E. LaZerte. We work through people, not around them, with a focus on solutions and support for next steps. I will provide leadership that will continue to ensure a collaborative school environment. I will empower students and staff to focus on differentiated instruction that meets the needs of every student. I hope to see you around our M.E. LaZerte High School community.

Pre-enrolment and registration update

Thanks to all the families who pre-enrolled before the March 22, 2024, deadline to help our school get ready for next year! 

We had more requests than available space, which means new students will be chosen by random selection in Grade 10.

If your child is entering Grade 10, you will be notified about the results by April 12, 2024.

For students new to M.E.LaZerte going into Grade 11 and 12 who reside outside the M.E.LaZerte attendance area we were not able to enrol you for the next school year.

Summer School 2024

Register starting April 4th, 2024 through Metro Continuing Education.

• 5-credit classes | July 2-26 (19 days) from 9am to 1pm
• 3-credit classes | July 2-12 | July 16-26 (9 days) from 9am to 2pm

Register as early as possible to secure your course, as space is limited.

• The online registration deadline is June 25 (at 11:59pm) for all session one and five-credit courses.
• The online registration deadline is July 10 (at 11:59pm) for all session two courses.

Students are encouraged to register at their home school site if the course is available. If a course is not available at your home school, all sites are open for registration

Online students will receive an invite to their Google Classroom on their EPS share account from June 28 to July 1.

Full in Planned Classes

For the 2024 - 2025 school year, M.E.LaZerte High School is full in planned classes in Grades 10 to 12 in the regular program. We will now only accept resident students in Grades 10 to 12 whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have newly moved into the school’s attendance area. A resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian living in Edmonton who is not Roman Catholic. Non-resident students can enrol in another Division school with space in planned classes.

An Update on M.E.LaZerte Enrolment Growth

M.E.LaZerte High School will be moving to a Level 2 school on the Growth Control Model for the 2024–25 school year and will continue to have an open attendance area boundary. This means that resident students who live in the attendance area and siblings of current students who are returning to the school next year will be guaranteed a space.
