Academic Achievement Recognition

Second and Third Quarter Honour Roll Recipients

Students obtaining an average of 80% or higher in ALL courses taken each quarter will be recognized on an honour roll.

Year End Honour Award Recipients

Students with an average in the school year receving an 80% in all courses taken in the school year will recieve an Honours Certificate for the school year. Students that have an average of 80-89% for all courses taken at M.E. LaZerte for the school year will receive an honours certificate at the following autumn awards ceremony. Students whose average is 90% or higher will be recognized as having honours with distinction.

The top student for each grade will be selected using criteria set by Edmonton Public Schools:

School Awards and Scholarships

Note: Please check the announcements, post-secondary calendars, scholarship websites, bulletins and counselling office for scholarships and awards information. Some Post Secondary Institutes (universities and colleges) are now offering scholarships based on Grade 11 final marks. Please check their websites.

Application forms must be submitted to the awards board before June 1st for all school awards. Application forms are available in Student Success Central.

Harmony in the Halls

Each year the Canadian Arab Friendship Association (CAFA) recognizes M.E. LaZerte students in grades 10, 11 or 12 who demonstrate and promote positive citizenship, encourage peace and harmony amongst their peers and clearly understand the cultural mosaic within the school. Recipients receive a certificate and a cash award. 

The M.E LaZerte Awards Board Scholarship

The M.E. LaZerte awards board scholarship recognizes a student who has overcome adversity, has completed his/her third year of high school at M.E LaZerte and is continuing with other educational programming. The scholarship will consist of a certificate and a cash award of $500. 

Athletics Awards

Will be presented to the top male and female at each grade level.

Thom Elniski Memorial Scholarship

A cash award of $750.00, a certificate and an engraved nameplate to be placed on a plaque to remain at M.E. LaZerte will be presented yearly to a student who exemplifies the spirit demonstrated by Mr. Elniski throughout his life and work with young people within the school and community. The scholarship recipient is to use the money to assist with his or her post-secondary expenses and it is hoped that one day said recipient can "pay it forward". This was one of Mr. Elniski's principles in life.

Roger Ambrosie Memorial Scholarship

$1000 for tuition in a post-secondary Mechanics program and a plaque are given to the top grade 12 Mechanics student.

Kinsmen Club of Edmonton Achievement Award for Community Service

One $500 scholarship is presented to an M. E. LaZerte student who has provided outstanding service to his/her school and community. The student must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution in the fall.

District Awards

The District Student Awards recognize and celebrate the diversity of excellence and success for Grade 12 students across the District. Six award categories represent broad curricular themes, attributes of citizenship and overall commitment to learning. District high schools may recognize one student for each award category.  

Service Awards

Service Awards recognize students who have contributed service to school activities and organizations geared towards the betterment of the school community within a single school year:

  • Bronze 40 hours
  • Silver 80 hours
  • Gold 125 hours
  • Diamond 200 hours
  • Platinum 300 hours

Outside Awards

Governor General’s Bronze Medal

A medal is presented annually to the graduating student who achieves the highest academic standing. (Based on Alexander Rutherford Scholarship criteria in grade 11 and 12): ALIS Scholarships & Bursaries
